<DIV>Long ago and far away, I turned 25. I was in Maryland, visiting family,
recently returned from a while spent out of the country. I was trying to
celebrate the 1/4 century mark with friends at a watering hole. I was not
driving that day, and back freshly, did not even have my driver's license with
me. I had, out of habit at the time, my passport. The tender of the
establishment refused the service of a beer, saying that passports as proof of
identity were too easily altered. Yes, he was an idiot. Although I love to think
that I looked underage and all that, I hope there's a point here.</DIV>

<DIV>That is an interesting question. How do you prove that you're the person
referred to in the documents? Look at the number of people who got passports
from a deceased person's birth certificate. There's no biometric data on
driver's licenses (DL), SS Cards, or the US passport card, except for height,
weight, & hair and eye color on the DL. Even the new "Biometric Passports"
that the US is issuing have only an encoded picture and physical description.
They're depending on facial recognition software to match the picture to the
person. The EU is adding fingerprint info to theirs as well. Of course,
privacy advocates are freaking out, particularly since the info is stored on
an RFID chip, and could theoretically be stolen.<BR><BR>The FBI has my
fingerprints on file, but who knows how long it would take to access
them.<BR><BR>I hate to think that I actually resemble my DL &
passport photos, and they could be matched to me. <BR></DIV>

were new to Moscow . . . say I moved here from<BR>out-of-state . . .<BR><BR>If
somebody were to call the Moscow Police Department reporting that "that<BR>new
neighbor of mine . . . I think his name is Tom Hansen . . . might be<BR>an
undocumented Canadian,", the MPD would be obligated to obtain
documents<BR>from me proving my citizenship.<BR><BR>If I didn't have documents
to prove my citizenship, the Moscow Police<BR>Department would place me in
lockup until such time that my citizenship is<BR>sufficiently proven.
Being new to Idaho . . . and from out-of-state . . .<BR>that may take a
while.<BR><BR>And the Al-Qaeda . . . They hate us for are freedoms,
