Co-op Has Best Year Ever*<BR><BR>Moscow Food Co-op will end 2009 with its best
financial performance <BR>ever, according to Co-op general manager Kenna Eaton.
Profit for 2009 <BR>will exceed $200,000, doubling the Co-op’s previous best
year. Sales at <BR>the Co-op for 2009 will total approximately $7.2 million. The
increased <BR>profit resulted from increased staff efficiency, better cost
control, <BR>and strong support from customers.<BR><BR>Because of the strong
sales performance, the Co-op was able to return <BR>some of its profits to
member-owners and to employees in December. The <BR>Co-op distributed $10,000 to
member-owners based on annual purchases. <BR>The 500 member-owners with the
largest total purchases received <BR>appreciation coupons varying from $10 to
$55, the first ever rebate to <BR>members. More than $30,000 was also returned
to employees in bonuses. <BR>The Co-op currently has over 5,000 member-owners
and 85 employees, both <BR>are slight increases from last year.<BR><BR>Much of
the profit will be retained by the Co-op for other uses. In the <BR>summer of
2010, the Co-op will install a salad bar. The Co-op Board of <BR>Directors will
be considering saving money for future needs, <BR>accelerating debt payments,
and advancing strategic initiatives. <BR>Improvements to the Wellness and Meat
Departments are also being <BR>considered for 2010.<BR><BR>The Co-op is located
at 121 East Fifth Street in downtown Moscow. The <BR>store is open every day
from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. Membership is not <BR>required to shop at the Moscow
