<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Oh dear, once again poor old Mr. Deco has missed
the point by a country mile and Mrs. Mix comes closest to the mark. I
didn't for a second think that the folks at Newsweek were consciously trying to
displaying their sexism. Quite to the contrary, I think that every person
even remotely involved with that cover considers themselves to be the very
definition of a proper feminist. However I do think that the picture was chosen
to portray former Gov. Palin as a lightweight, a mere pretty trifle whose
quaint notions are easily dismissed as fluff. From their point of view
denigrating a woman who isn't down with their version of what a feminist should
be couldn't possibly be sexist even when the end results are one and the
same.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>What I found amusing was your pronouncement, made
as another thoroughly modern, progressive, down with the gals type of metro
male, that the photo was unquestionably OK ("I hardly think the photo
sexist") and then immediately go on to demean the subject of the photo based on
nothing more then the gender and her pose!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Of course, on the other hand, I have long
ago been deemed a sexist, as defined by those who determine things
such as that on this forum. I have publicly stated that I do not believe in
women being even remotely close to combat if they belong in the military at all.
I don't believe that they should be police or firemen unless they can meet the
exact same physical requirement as the males. I believe that boy scouts should
be for boys and that an all male club will not bring about the end of the world.
So, who am I to disagree with those who purport to be experts?</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Finally, in answer to your falsely premised
question, no I don't think the new photo's you've posted are sexist.
Unflattering yes (all guys in short pants look goofy) I'm just thankful
that at least he had enough dignity to not be wearing euro-weenie bike
racing spandex. Course if he had, I'm fairly sure Condoleezza would have set him
straight muy pronto and if not, Cheney would have quite rightfully
shot him.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I don't think Palin has much recourse considering that she
willingly posed for the photo and is a public figure. If she was a
private person, or was not posing for the photo, she could probably
sue. But I don't think she will get anywhere with this other than
complaining. She also would have to show actual harm caused her by
the photo, and I don't think anyone is thinking it is a bad photo,
in fact, she looks rather healthy and athletic, especially for a
grandmother. :)</DIV>

very well have purchased, or may have been granted permission
by the publisher of Runner's World, or the photographer to use

signed a release allowing Runner's World or the photographer

that issue would be between Newsweek and the copyright owner.
Palin would have nothing to do with it.</FONT></DIV>
