color="#000000">The Idaho Transportation Board approved funding
additional highway construction projects with savings realized from
the eight original projects. The new projects were announced during
the board's Aug. 20 business meeting in Rigby.</font><br>

color="#000000">More than $50 million in bid savings emerged from the
stimulus projects advertised this spring. The transportation board, at
its July meeting, dedicated $15.8 million in savings to expand a
section of U.S. 95 north of Hayden from two lanes to four.<br>

color="#000000">"Designating the remaining stimulus savings to
improving the condition of our pavements and bridges makes sense,"
said Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Darrell Manning. "With
more than one in five miles of Idaho's highway pavement being in poor
condition, the transportation board made the right decision."<br>
<br>
It is estimated the additional nine stimulus projects funded with the
savings will create or sustain 900 jobs. The projects will be
advertised for contractors to bid on this fall. Work is anticipated to
begin in the spring of 2010.</font><br>
