Sometimes turning someone in leads to treatment and recovery. The "Rock Bottom Wake-Up" scenario. Whether it's drugs or alcohol or anger managment, etc. First time offenders usually are given treatment options, if it takes a few times it's still better than a wife or kids being beaten to death or the loss of a loved one from a drunk driver.

I know my dad would turn me in for a major crime, probably advice for a minor one. I did see a dad that turned in his son for muder once on Dateline or 20/20 once? How could he live with himself for not doing it in the understanding of what he would expect if it were his kid that were killed and another father knew their child did it? Sometimes the safest place for your child may be under 24hr care.

Bear, the andecdote about the friend in a hole is great. Thanks.
