Billboard comes to the Moscow/Pullman Area

March 13, 2009

This spring the American
Humanist Association (AHA) will announce an
atheist/agnostic billboard to go
up on Highway 95 just south of Moscow. The
billboard will beckon nontheistic
people by reminding them they aren't
alone. It will also offer a Web site and
toll-free number that will provide
the public with further information about
atheism, freethought, humanism,
and Ethical Culture.

Who:
-Roy
Speckhardt, the executive director of the American Humanist Association
in
Washington, DC, will provide context for the Moscow/Pullman billboard
effort
and similar ones across the country.
- Maggie Ardiente, director of
development of the American Humanist
Association, will talk about the mission
of the AHA and highlight its recent
activities (legal, education, advocacy)
to promote humanism in the United
States.

Where: 1912 Center, Fiske

Buren
Just three blocks up from downtown on Third Street, across from Moscow
High
School Square

When: March 24, 10:00 am

Why:
Nontheists--atheists, agnostics, and others who subscribe to no
religion--may
feel they have no voice in a time when traditional religions
dominate the
public discourse. They may also feel alone--that they're shut
out of their
communities and vilified simply because they don't believe in a
god. But now
they have a place to turn. This spring, come learn more about
people who
don't believe in a god and why such a pointed billboard is needed
to change
the public's perception of the godless.

# # #

The American
