<P><FONT size=2>On January 27, I was among a
group of Republican Senators who met with
President Barack Obama for discussions on the
economic stimulus legislation that is being
considered. While all of us involved in
that meeting are genuinely committed to seeking
ways to bring our country's economy out of this
financial crisis, we simply disagree on how to
get there. The President's $825 billion
proposal <A
href="http://crapo.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=2100031436.52411.100&gen=1&mailing_linkid=46131">costs
too much</A>, and will be too much of a burden
on our children and their future
generations. We must not allow huge
spending plans to threaten our economic
stability and our children's future. <A

Initiative was <A

by the Senate</A> on January 15 on a vote of
73-21. The measure now goes to the House
of Representatives and if passed there, could
soon be signed into law. By
working together collaboratively, we may soon
see a new dynamic in public lands management in
Idaho. Our principal objectives have
always included doing better for the land and
the people who live, work and play in Owyhee
County. We also seek to reduce the<FONT
style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff"> conflict that
has impeded real progress in one of the most
unique landscapes in North
America.</FONT></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: #333333"><FONT
color=#000000>The <A
href="http://crapo.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=2100031436.52411.100&gen=1&mailing_linkid=46133">Owyhee
Initiative</A> is a collaborative effort with a
broad representation, started by the Owyhee
County Commissioners in 2001, to address
and resolve decades-old land management issues
in Owyhee County, Idaho.
</FONT></SPAN><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: #333333"><FONT
color=#000000>The Initiative will designate
517,000 acres of public land as the
Owyhee-Bruneau Wilderness, in six units, release
199,000 acres of wilderness study areas to
non-wilderness multiple use management and
designate 316 miles of Wild and Scenic
Rivers. </FONT></SPAN><FONT
size=2><FONT
style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff"><A

<P><FONT size=2>During the month of February,
our thoughts often turn to Valentine’s
Day and images of hearts. But the heart is
much more than a symbol – it is also the vital
organ that pumps blood throughout our
body. We tend to take our heart for
granted until our own heart, or that of a loved
one, stops working properly. Regrettably,
nearly 80 million American adults suffer from
heart disease, stroke, or some other form of
cardiovascular disease. Heart disease
is our nation’s #1 killer. Each year,
the President designates February as American
Heart Month. During February, each of us
can take a few easy steps to fight heart disease
and take better care of our <A
href="http://crapo.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=2100031436.52411.100&gen=1&mailing_linkid=46129">health</A>. We
can eat right and exercise. Also, we
can participate in an activity, such as a
Go Red for Women luncheon or a CPR class.

<P><FONT size=2>Now that I am back serving as a
member of the Environment and Public Works
Committee (EPW), one of my priorities is to
protect the interests and <A

of rural states</A> during the upcoming highway
reauthorization efforts in
Congress. I have co-sponsored
legislation to do just that. The
111th Congress will begin working on the renewed
funding plan for our nation's transportation
system later this year. I will continue to
work to ensure that Idaho and other rural
states are well-represented during these

that you or your children know has been a victim
of teen dating violence. T</FONT><FONT

href="http://crapo.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=2100031436.52411.100&gen=1&mailing_linkid=46119">teen
dating violence</A>, including physical,
emotional and sexual assault, and harassment via
texting, email or Instant Messaging is a reality
for many American teenagers. Like drug
abuse, it’s a reality of which many parents are
unaware.</FONT></SPAN></FONT></P>

tweens (children between the ages of 11 and
12) who have been in a relationship say
they know friends who have been verbally abused
(called stupid, worthless, ugly, etc) by a
boyfriend/girlfriend. </FONT></SPAN></SPAN>

style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><FONT color=#000000
size=2>Two in five (41%) tweens who have been in
a relationship know friends who have been called
names, put down, or insulted via cellphone, IM,
social networking sites (such as MySpace and
Facebook), etc. </FONT></SPAN>

style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><FONT color=#000000
size=2>One in five 13-14 year olds in
relationships (20%) say they know friends and
peers who have been struck in anger (kicked,
hit, slapped, or punched) by a boyfriend or
girlfriend. </FONT></SPAN>

that the the transition to digital
television is scheduled to take place on
February 17. </FONT></FONT><FONT
size=3><FONT size=2>On that day, all full-power
television stations across the United States
will cease sending out signals on analog
airwaves and begin digital-only
broadcasting. Approximately 400,000
Idahoans could find themselves without a
television signal if they do not take measures
to make sure they are ready for the
transition. An effort to delay the
transition by four months failed to clear
Congress, so February 17 remains the day of
