<DIV>Keely and Sue,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Sue, I never made the boast of being all-knowing, so
please don't put such nonsense into your emails.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Part of being a caregiver is knowing when and when not to
help someone, and when that need is more serious or less
serious. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Knowing when to help a person in a wheelchair, versus
taking away their independence to open a door for
themselves, is a learned concept. It is important that a
person remain as independent as possible for as long as
possible.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Sometimes you get people that CAN do things for
themselves but want someone to do it for them. If someone
always does do it for them they lose their independence and
have a declining quality of life, and a shortened life span.
</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Same thing happens with pain medication. If you cry wolf
over ever little pain to get a dose of pain killers, your body
builds an early natural resistance to the medication, and
not tolerance to pain. So people that cry wolf, end up in
serious pain most the day because they maximized the amount of
painkillers they can take <SPAN>earlier</SPAN> than most
people. People that give pain medication have to determine the
real level of pain, verses a person with low tolerance to
discomfort so they do not have a patient they cannot help in
later stages of an illness.. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I have seen people sweating and screaming in pain,
because they wanted the high of the pain killers and they
don't work for them when they are in real pain. All we can do
is hold their hand, make them as comfortable as
possible, and sympathize with them. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I would imagine both of you, as caregivers, would be
administrating the pain meds too early, and doing things for
people when they should doing them for themselves. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>You are not thinking ahead, you are just reacting
emotionally with no long term thinking about the consequences
of your actions. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>If any of you gave a rip about those in real need, rather
then just reacting to any and all things, you would have
fought to keep Latah's ONLY skilled nursing home, and the only
opportunity for level 4 and 5 care level patients without
private insurance to stay close to family and friends. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>This sidewalk thing is very frivolous. And is not
addressing any real problems. It is whining because you aren't
interested in the real problems of the community, nor are you
offering or doing anything about it. It is just something to
complain about. Yes, it sucks stomping through slush. But it
isn't a serious problem to waste taxpayer monies on during the
worst economic recession since WWII. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>And no Keely, we will not have to worry
about me ever being your caregiver, you will have to
leave Latah because you don't make enough to afford a
caregiver in Latah. The facility you would have qualified
for is shut down now. How ironic huh?</DIV>

I shudder to think that, if I were ever under Donovan's
care, he might not judge me and my problems sufficient for
his compassion. On the other hand, it appears that the
only suffering human beings around us are all in his care,
which makes me think he must be very tired, indeed.
Perhaps that contributes to his

<DIV>Sue,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>You are correct. I am insensitive to the needs
of the lazy able bodied who "think" they have
problems because of some snow on a sidewalk. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I deal with people with real problems. I work
with people on chemo therapy, dialysis, and
other life threatening illnesses. I deal with
parents with children with cases of Autism.
I work with people that are missing arms, legs,
and are in advanced stages of
<SPAN>Alzheimer's</SPAN> or dementia. I work
for people that have only $80-$41 a
month after medical costs are paid. I deal with
families losing their children, mothers, brothers,
sisters, and spouses of 60+ years. I deal with a man
who was stationed in Hiroshima at the end of WWII.
I work with Veterans that cannot get proper
medical care for their war injuries. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>You don't have problems, I don't have problems,
people fighting for removal of every snow flake
don't have real problems, You bet I am insensitive
to the whiners and complainers that don't have a
CLUE as to what pain, suffering, inconvenience and
loss really is. They have everything handed to them,
and want future generations to pay for their luxury
and squandering without a bit of
understanding of what sacrifice is about.
</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I watched Latah County kick out everyone of its
elderly people in their care by closing down its
only long term facility. I saw no compassion from
the county, just greedy people wanting the building
and how they could make money off of it. I didn't
even see anyone mention the funerals of those that
died shortly after their forced move. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>You are right, I have no compassion for the
lazy able bodied that want to waste taxpayers money
while ignoring the needs of the truly disabled and
those with real problems and challenges.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>If you took all the whiners and complainers
about the snow, gave them a shovel, they could solve
their problem without the government or taxpayer
monies. But they cannot, because they need the
government to do anything and everything for them.

We worked to make Moscow <BR>a better place for ourselves, our children, and others who love it despite <BR>it's winter weather. And now that we are retired we do leave in the<BR>winter. <BR>But, to be honest, we know that isn't a very good solution--most <BR>people--the folks who live and work in Moscow,
the elderly, the disabled, <BR>and others who just like the cold, deserve conditions that are safe for <BR>walking and travel.
