in celebrating an installation of bus shelters that include public art on
September 17, 2008 at 12:30 p.m on the lawn at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">St. Augustine</st1:City></st1:place>’s Church 6<sup>th</sup>
and <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Deakin Street</st1:address></st1:Street>.
Remarks will be made by Mayor Nancy Chaney and University of Idaho President
Steven Daley-Laursen.<b><span style='font-weight:bold'><o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span

<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>This project was funded by a 2006 federal earmark of $88,000 under the
Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) 5309 Bus and Bus Shelter program
in a joint request with other <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Idaho</st1:State></st1:place>
transportation providers through the Community Transportation Association of
Idaho (CTAI). The program required a 20% match and the City contributed
$22,000 toward the project. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>The City worked with Moscow Valley Transit to determine which stops on
the public transit routes had the most boardings and two sites were chosen on
the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Idaho Campus</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>After a 15-month process of becoming an FTA Grantee, the City was able
to procure and construct two bus shelters located at the Wallace Complex and at
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">St. Augustine</st1:City></st1:place>’s
Church. Land for the Wallace Complex shelter was provided through an
easement from the University of <st1:State w:st="on">Idaho</st1:State> and the
thanks to the generosity of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">St.
Augustine</st1:City></st1:place>’s church, the land for that shelter
was donated to the City.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>Brasco International in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Detroit</st1:City>
<st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State></st1:place> built the shelters to
meet the specifications needed for these sites. In addition, Brasco was
able to assist in the public art process by providing additional glass panels
to be etched as the shelters were being installed. Ace Elliot from <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Pullman</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Washington</st1:State></st1:place>
was the general contractor for the project. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt'>The public art component was achieved by working with a <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Idaho</st1:PlaceName></st1:place> class Art 322: Graphic Design Studio,
led by Delphine Keim-Campbell. Designs created by students Dan Stephens
and Lenore MacLeod-Bickley were chosen to be installed on the shelters.
The designs were applied by Dreamin’ Graphics.<b><span style='font-weight:
