working closely with the North Central Idaho Health Department, closed the <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Hamilton-Lowe</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Aquatic</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>
on Friday, July 25 to super chlorinate the facility as one confirmed case of
Cryptosporidium has been reported in the Moscow-Pullman area. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>Cryptosporidium or “Crypto” is a chlorine-resistant
parasite and is one of the most common waterborne illnesses. Symptoms of
Crypto usually begin 2-10 days after being infected and can last for 1-2
weeks. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, stomach cramps or pain, fever,
nausea, fatigue and vomiting.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt'>In addition to the daily processes designed to prevent infection from
Crypto and other illnesses from spreading at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Hamilton-Lowe</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Aquatic</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, the North Central
Health Department requested that pools be super chlorinated after business
hours on July 25. To be proactive in assisting the health department, to
provide the safest recreation facility possible and to assist in all safety
efforts to stop the potential spread of this infection, the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Hamilton-Lowe</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Aquatic</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> closed pool
operations at 10:30 a.m. on July 25. The super chlorination process began
at that time and the facility will reopen on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. for
regular business hours.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt'>The super chlorination process consists of increasing the pool’s
chlorine parts per million (ppm) to 20 ppm for eight hours. The <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Hamilton-Lowe</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Aquatic</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType> maintains a daily chlorination
level of 2-3 ppm, 1-2 ppm above the recommended level of chlorine in public
water recreational facilities as outlined by the Idaho Administrative Code
IDAPA 16.02.14 – Rules Governing Construction & Operation of Public
Swimming Pools in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Idaho</st1:State></st1:place>.
This higher daily level of chlorine is a result of the City’s commitment
to avoid the spread of any types of infection and increase the level of safety
at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Hamilton-Lowe</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Aquatic</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>.
