<p>Fun stuff going on? I just happen to have written a little bit on that topic in last night's paper.</p><p /><p>First of all, try to attend Rendezvous in the Park, third weekend in July. Celebrate them.</p><p class="storybody">One of the growing treasures in the community occurred last Friday evening - the opening of Artwalk. Artwalk is a collaboration between artists and businesses who place art for our viewing pleasure in stores and galleries all over the downtown (and beyond - make sure to catch the exhibit at the Silos). These exhibits will be in place through the summer, so if you missed Friday evening's opening, venture into stores with the Artwalk logo. But make a mental note not to miss the opening next year.</p><p class="storybody">Art!

swells downtown with an affable crowd of families, friends, and out-of-town visitors, all strolling through Moscow, mingling with neighbors and enjoying a renewed sense of community. Music emanates from Friendship Square, downtown corners, and storefronts and patios along the way. The camaraderie is palpable, the smiles contagious.</p><p class="storybody">In many respects, Artwalk's Friday evening opening mimics what the Farmers Market does every Saturday morning all summer long. Thousands of people attend the market. Many venture downtown for food, arts and crafts, plants, flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables. A significant number come just for the art and social interaction, listening to the live music in Friendship Square, letting their children dance or play in the playground, and chatting with friends and renewing acquaintances.</p><p class="storybody">Every Thursday evening in East City Park all summer long, music prevails. There are few things that match having a seat !
in the
grass while music washes over you like a gentle breeze. Children listen or play in the nearby playground. A Frisbee glides through the air. Babies giggle. Join your community for these laid-back affairs. If you prefer acting to music, enjoy Shakespeare under the stars with the Idaho Repertory Theater (or go inside the Hartung Theater for the rest of its plays).</p><p class="storybody">Come the third week of July, Rendezvous in the Park and Rendezvous for Kids take over East City Park. At Rendezvous for Kids, children enjoy an arts and crafts festival for two mornings of creative projects in the park. Our children learn under artists of all kinds, painters, writers, actors, weavers, and more. At the Rendezvous in the Park concerts, people ranging in age from infants to the elderly enjoy four consecutive nights of outdoor concert performances.</p><p class="storybody">East City Park is the perfect setting for the community's summer counterweight to the university's jazz festiva!

February. The majestic trees give shade from the early evening sun, while providing a canopy over the lush, manicured lawns on which the crowd reclines in a patchwork quilt of blankets. Children romp and play, dancers converge on the grass before the stage, and the ambiance that is a perfect summer evening in Moscow covers all.</p><p class="storybody">The music is varied, offering something for nearly everyone. This year, Thursday night gives us Moscow's own country prodigy, teenager Shiloh Sharrard, followed by the bluegrass group Prairie Flyer, and culminating with lively, horn-driven, funk-rock entertainers, the Locust Street Taxi. On Friday evening, renowned touring showman Will Hoge and his band will rock the park, after warm ups from University of Idaho singer-songwriter Zack O'Connor and Seattle's power trio Dirty Dale. Saturday night, local act Bare Wires gives a lively start to the evening, followed by the blind Alabaman from Detroit, bluesman Robert Bradley and the
Blackwater Surprise. Headlining Rendezvous' Saturday line-up is famed Cajun slide guitarist Sonny Landreth. Landreth's chops on the slide lured such famed guitarists as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Robben Ford, Vince Gill and Eric Johnson to Landreth's just-released CD. Closing out Moscow's musical extravaganza, Professor Bill Wharton brings a group of exceptional classical musicians to Moscow. The Rendezvous concerts conclude Sunday evening at the old bandstand in the center of the park with a classical concert by the "Rendezvous Orchestra."</p><p class="storybody">If you haven't been to Rendezvous, make it this year. The business community supports it spectacularly for a reason - it's a wonderful community event.
