Many 1000s of years ago, men spend a lot of their wealth protecting their young daughters from diseases and from being raped. To pay for the cost, they sold their daughter's virginity. A woman who had sex and was not a virgin was not considered of value because she most likely had diseases she would pass on to her children, and may also be carrying another man's child.
