Honestly, does anyone think the City or the Council gives a rat's behind what the citizens think?

All this palaver and not one single thing will be different...the money-changers will still have their day at the temple.

After almost 20 years of watching the take-over of Moscow and the destruction of what this town used to be like, I'm just sick of it! This BB was produced to help get the citizen's voice out there and heard and who the hell cares?! Certainly, not the Mayor or the Council or City Officials. Its the same good-old-boys that keep getting elected and employed and the same crap getting said and the same.....everything. NOTHING will ever get better because the citizens are simply not in the mood to really fight for what they want and the Council, City Officials (yes, that's YOU Gary and Randy) keep snowballing things through without a single care of what the citizens of this town really want or need.

Where are the citizens at the city meetings? Where are the people in the streets, protesting what is obviously an under-the-table-dealing and (oh please don't say it!) possibly money changing hands to bums-rush a deal through that the CITIZENS DON'T WANT OR NEED? Where is the VOICE of Moscow and why isn't it being heard SCREAMING!!!????

Well, ok then - go for it Steed and the rest of you! You want to destroy a small community and watch the people shrivel away - you got. Its happening as you sputter and sneak about and just plain do what's best for YOUR pockets. Seems as if very few people will be watching much less givin' a flip about what you do, anyway.

J :]

> Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2008 20:50:10 -0800
> From: garrettmc@verizon.net
> To: vision2020@moscow.com; jeffh@moscow.com
> Subject: [Vision2020] questions for Jeff/ was (no subject)
>
> Hi Jeff,
>
> Thanks for taking the time to dialog about Hawkins.
>
> I emailed v2020 earlier with a series of questions I'd
> like to read your response to if you care to answer.
>
> A little deeper then that, though, as you appear to be
> pro-growth through the corridor starting on Moscow's
> end, I'm wondering what your vision of that is. Are
> you really excited about seeing it developed similarly
> to most other cities?
>
> I moved to the Palouse in 1991 from LA and my parent's
> live in western Wash, so I've seen strip mall sprawl
> as far as the eye can see. I'm always amazed at the
> development that occurs so quickly. Personally, I
> think it's ridiculous to have 3 Walgreens within 7
> miles of each other, on top of all the other chain
> stores that seem so similar. Do you have that sort of
> vision for the corridor? A bunch of chain stores
> selling things you can get a few miles down the road?
> Where does that stop?
>
> I think Hawkins is ridiculously huge, but if it
> located closer to Pullman, so be it. However, for a
> mall twice the size as the PEM to be built, like a
> leech, next to Moscow (we have no choice but to be on
> the border since that's where we are) seems predatory.
> They've admitted that they want Moscow's business,
> and they swindled their way in, through their
> "agreement," while getting subsidized by Moscow
> taxpayers. Do you think this kind of project,
> spearheaded by a huge development firm who has little
> regard for the "locals," is really necessary?
>
> As a farmer, I am not anti-growth. I love to grow
> things. This leads to another reason I'm concerned
> about sprawl. We are losing farmland all around, and
> it's not just going to come back. There may be a day
> when we wish we had that farmland back, instead of a
> concrete monstrosity. It seems though, that the
> almighty dollar has many people bowing down, not
> seeing that this uncontrolled "pro-growth" is really
> detrimental to us in the long run. The growth path we
> are currently on is not sustainable, and it is
> irresponsible to continue to feed it.
>
> Most of these chain stores are feeding the riches
> families in the world while providing low wage jobs
> with little to no benefits. On top of that, they are
> selling things made mostly overseas, with questionable
> means of production (little to no labor or environment
> regulations). It would be one thing if people
> supported growing our local economy sustainably,
> taking advantage of the creativity of the locals.
> We'd be creating far more wealth if more people used
> their energies towards creating tangible assets,
> rather than focusing on retail.
