first five years of his career, and compiled a 94-46 record, notably, about half
the wins that Roger Clemens compiled in his 13 years with the Red Sox. The
Babe held the longest scoreless innings streak in the World Series for most of a
century. The combination of his pitching and hitting prowess makes him the
greatest player of all time, in my opinion, though I loved Willie Mays more,
since I could see him play when I was growing up. </FONT></DIV>

great great man. His home runs per at bat stats are well behind the Babe,
though. Over the course of their careers, the Babe hit a home run every

make some good points Tom. Hank Aaron is absolutely a class act. I
was thinking more in terms of the Babe's accomplishments relative to his era
where he was by himself hitting more home runs than the entire teams were
hitting. And as for the stories about his heavy partying and womanizing
during the roaring 1920s (again relative to his era), I first heard about them
when I was in my late teens and my initial thoughts were pretty much "Babe
Ruth was the greatest baseball player of all time!". If we're
talking about the big picture of class act, great role model, great ambassador
for the game, no steroids, no debauchery, most legitimate career home runs,

could do for you, you don't just need to look at Barry Bonds increasing hat
size and home run numbers, look at Clemens. He won 192 games for the Red
Sox from 1984-1996, while losing 111. But his last four years with the
Red Sox as his body gave out, 1993-96, he won 11, 9, 10 and 10, while losing
14, 7, 5 and 13. He was basically a .500 pitcher for those four years at
40-39. He goes to Toronto and is immediately 21-7, and then with the
Yanks is 20-6, 14-10, 13-8, 20-3, 13-6, 17-9, followed by 18-4 in Houston in
2004, 13-8, and 7-6, before returning to the Yanks and going 7-6 this
year. </SPAN></FONT></P></DIV>

today and it is scandalous. George Mitchell is a director for the Boston
