unfavorably about Doug Wilson and his flock. It was to point out, as if I
should have to, the power of a large block of votes in this community.
For years many of us have complained about the incremental encroachments in </span></font><font
color=teal face=Georgia><span style='font-family:Georgia;color:teal'>Moscow</span></font><font
color=teal face=Georgia><span style='font-family:Georgia;color:teal'> by a
theology and political agenda that few of us share. By and large we were
dismissed as crackpots, one trick ponies, and shrews. I don’t mind
one bit being viewed as a shrill Cassandra, but I do mind a great deal the
consequence of ignoring persistent warnings. It is imperative that those readers
who support and have benefited by public education vote to sustain the
levy. Those who wish to nitpick certain elements of the levy will do so.
Those with ideological aversion to public education are licking their chops at
another opportunity to stick their fingers in our eyes. But those of us, who I
believe are in the majority, who wish to see a strong public education in
this district are obliged to support the levy, attend the school district
financial hearings, and work constructively to improve and strengthen public
education in our community.</span></font></p>

exhortations on civic affairs, at least for a while, but I was off by one week.
There is one other set of comments that needs to be made.</span></font></p>

style='font-size:12.0pt'>First, it would be wrong of us to let this election
pass by without giving thanks to God publicly. Those in our community who had
specialized in harassing our ministries received a significant set-back, for

style='font-size:12.0pt'>The second is to commend you as a congregation for
your strong presence in this last election. It was extremely gratifying to see
your involvement. When Nancy and I went to the polls, I was astonished at how
many of our friends we saw there—quite unlike previous elections. That
sort of thing makes a difference.</span></font></p>

style='font-size:12.0pt'>Third, all the exhortations about service and
sacrifice were not window-dressing. It is important for us to be willing to

style='font-size:12.0pt'>Fourth, don’t gloat—be glad. Gladness is
not gloating, and vice versa. Scripture tells us that when God intervenes on
our behalf, and our adversary is struggling, a good way to get God to stay His
hand is for us to starting gloating. Relief and thanks to God are most fitting.

election just two days from now—a public school levy election. As before,
we are not telling you how to vote, just that you have this opportunity before
you, and this opportunity, like all of them, brings responsibility with it.</span></font></p>
