12.0pt'>A <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Moscow</st1:place></st1:City>
citizen recently came forward and gave the Moscow Police Department information
she received in the mail. Here’s how this scam works:<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'> <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>You receive a letter in the mail from a phony organization called,
“Shopping Jobs Agency.” Inside the envelope, you will find
instructions on how to become an employee for the agency with the title
“Mystery Customer”. The <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>lure</span></b>
is a realistic cashier’s check for a large amount (in this case $4998.00)
is made out to you. The letter goes on to explain that you can make an
easy $400.00 on your first probation training assignment by using this money to
purchase merchandise at local businesses then report back to the agency about
your shopping experience. Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'> <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>The <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>hook</span></b> is that before
you can deposit the check, which is no good anyway, <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>you must call a telephone number and speak to an assignment
coordinator. This assignment coordinator will be a polished individual
thanking you for accepting employment with the company. But, before you
can be an employee you must give them personal information that a normal place
of employment would ask. They will need your Social Security Number,
Driver’s license information, and of course they will want to direct
deposit the $400.00 you made into your bank, so they will need your bank account
information. By the way, did I mention they will ask you to send a
large portion of the money back to them so they can trust you as an
employee? Of course this will be your own money since the check is
phony. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'> <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>The victim if hooked, will go to the bank and deposit the check. Within
several days the bank will call you and state the check is no good, and now the
“Shopping Jobs Agency” has all of your personal information and
money.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>Please remember, if you receive similar correspondence in the mail and
it sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
