Not surprisingly, you seem to have missed the gist of my
post. (you might reread the part that follows "or, as is far more likely...") I
don't imagine for a second that the Real Life folks have formed as any kind of
response to CC by Moscow's shrillest chicken littles. I DO think that anonymous
opportunists in the form of "Giselle, Christ's avengers, and CANC have leaped
upon the opportunity presented by RL and their mildly over enthusiastic e-mail
blasts to put a somewhat different spin on the tiresome tirade we have
all been subjected to so very may times before. I suspect that they
are not connected with RL in any way. Not only do I not think that all of the
"proud intoleristas" could or would band together to form a new
congregation, I don't imagine that the grumpy group would require the
volume afforded by the Adventists school auditorium to contain them. I suspect
that any one of you alls parlors would provide
adequate accommodation with room to spare. I assign the intolesista
insurrection the "significance" I feel in deserves, precious little other than
the amusement it affords.

Gary, you've painted with a toxic and too-wide brush
here. It's important that you realize some things that argue against
your suspicion that Kirk critics have now banded together under the guise of
starting a new church here. You give us too much credit and Jesus
too little; we Intoleristas can barely manage to meet for coffee, while Christ
has led His church worldwide for two millennia. In discussing the
impetus for the formation of a new congregation, not many would confuse the
two, and only those with Wilsonian blinders would elevate "Hating Doug Wilson"
to such a level of significance.

Your continued belief that
Wilson and his elders and staff are the victims of a cruel and crude campaign
of hate puzzles me, but I'm really amazed that you would contend that the
origin and purpose of a new church plant here is all about Wilson. I'm
not sure which is more disturbing -- that you would believe Wilson is so
significant that he's influenced a whole group of people to start a church
dedicated to his destruction, or that Christ is so insignificant that a
blustering local blowhard could compete with Him as an object of
ecclesiastical undertaking. I know next to nothing about Real Life, but
I know quite a bit about church planting. Trust me when I say that while
opposition to Christ Church's effect on the community and its brutalization of
the Gospel message is a noble thing, it's not enough to build or sustain a
congregation.

I'm a proud Intolerista, as defined by Doug
Wilson, and I can tell you that none of the people I know who could be called
critics of Christ Church, myself included, have anything whatsoever to do with
Real Life. Further, most of the Kirk critics I've talked to are
less than thrilled with RL's manner of introducing themselves to Moscow and
are a little concerned that its presence here will be "more of the same" --
whether real bigotry, such as we've all seen with Christ Church, or just plain
ol' conservative Christianity, which they believe they've seen
elsewhere. As an evangelical, I'm always glad when the Gospel is
preached and lived out in my community; as a follower of Christ, I'm always
grieved that I see so little of it. But I'm praying for Real Life and
its ministry here, and whatever dislike I have for church growth statistics
and slick marketing is tempered by my gratitude for another evangelical voice
willing to confront the theological and ecclesiastical mess that Christ
Church has produced in our town. I've corresponded with Giselle,
and I don't think she deserves to be referred to as an anonymous shill.
I have no idea who the Avenger is, or who it is who posts that Calvinists are
hellbound heretics, and I don't plan to attend any Real Life services.
But I do believe that the Spirit-led believer who honestly explores the
Scriptures and plumbs the depths of her conscience would feel compelled to
speak out against the Kirk -- and not because of Doug Wilson, Gary, but
because of Jesus. "Because of Jesus" is what motivates Christians
to do the right thing, and if Doug Wilson comes into the picture, it's only
because of the stunning clarity of the difference between the
two.

keely

and I sincerely hope they touch the hearts of those who have been
shattered by "pastors" who would usurp the autonomy of the believer in
her/his relationship with Jesus Christ. The Gospel is a message of
reconciliation, liberation, grace, forgiveness, unbridled love and
humility. It is not a means by which to insinuate oneself into the
lives and consciences of others. And while community and fellowship
are vital for the spiritual health of the believer, the intimate
relationship of a man or woman to his or her Savior is the province of
their Spirit-informed conscience, not a tool to further the controlling,
aggressive and manipulative agenda of anyone who sees himself as the top
rung of a hierarchy the Gospel intends to dismantle.

If I were
