I will, grudgingly but charitably, acknowledge that "If You Want Me To Stay" is a pretty great song . . . especially if I close my eyes and pretend it's the great neo-funk band Rufus (with Chaka Khan). And I'm not familiar with "Train in Vain," but I have to say that I am a fan of the Clash, although -- warning! Heresy alert! -- I think "Combat Rock," not "London Calling," is their best. I'm a sucker for British punks singing in Spanish, as in "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" I just don't get why The Ramones and The Clash never made a concert stop in Tucson way back then.

Sigh. This brings back so many memories. I wonder if David Cassidy has ever really come to terms with his regrets about not having married me, as I suggested in a fan letter back in 1972 . . . Pity that Jeff got me instead, although minus the pumpkin-colored crushed velvet bellbottoms and polyester-knit macrame'd poncho. But hey, he still loves me.

keely

From: jeanlivingston@turbonet.com
To: kjajmix1@msn.com; lfalen@turbonet.com; vision2020@moscow.com
Subject: dissing Sly?
Date: Mon, 27 Aug 2007 16:30:29 -0700

For the record, "Family Affair" is not one of the
best songs by Sly and the Family Stone. No cherry picking lesser items

of Sly and the Family Stone, let's focus on Dance to the Music, I Want to Take

greatest bass lines of all time), and Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf

It's always better, of course, to be exposed to a variety of
viewpoints as well as to arguments against the things we hold closest. I
would hate to have so little confidence in or passion for the things I believe
that mere exposure to opposing viewpoints would cause me to waver and
wobble.

For example, no matter what the estimable Bruce
Livingston says, I still contend that Sylvester Stone of Sly and the Family
Stone is completely overrated as a singer, musician, and songwriter.
Unlike Elvis Costello, who is unequivocally a genius, as I'm sure Bruce would
agree.

See? I'm a reasonable woman, and no amount of exposure to
"It's A Family Affair" is likely to change that . . .

concepts. However as adults those that were homes schooled or attended private

would erge those on the left to subscribe to "National Review". Incidently I
subscribe to or donate enough different publications or organizations that I
wind up on about every conceivable mailing list imaginable.
>
>
