If you'd made a lot of money (and for all I know, you're a
billionaire), wouldn't you want to spend it? In todays media-centered
election campaigns where apparently money and image matter and the
substance of your campaign does not, doesn't it make sense to spend
some of that (presumably) hard-earned cash to play the game with the
big boys?<br>
<br>
Isn't making cash hand-over-fist and spending it wantonly the epitome
of the "American Dream"?<br>
<br>
I'm being a little tongue-in-cheek here, but I personally don't blame
him for spending his money on his image. It is his money, and
acknowledging the fact that the presentation of yourself to the media
is absurdly important in today's world is only being pragmatic.<br>
<br>
If you're looking for a President that is a normal Joe, good frickin'
luck. It would take a complete overhaul at this point to get there.<br>

<h1 class="mainHead">Edwards turns to "Pink Sapphire" spa makeup help</h1>
<div class="byline">By The Associated Press | <span
style="white-space: nowrap;">April 17, 2007</span></div>
<div>THE PLACE: Pink Sapphire, a day spa and makeup and skin care
boutique in Manchester. A statement on its Web site says its mission is
to "provide an avenue into the intriguing world of makeup."</div>
<div> </div>
<div>THE CLIENT: Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards has
relied on Pink Sapphire to look good for the television cameras in New
Hampshire.</div>
<div>Makeup for television is heavier than usual to hold up under the
lights, said co-owner Ariana Franggos. The routine is similar for both
sexes except for men, "it doesn't involve lipstick" she said.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Franggos said she's done makeup for John Edwards a few times but
won't go into details.</div>
<div>"I promise he's not in here getting facials and cucumber peels
on his eyes or anything," she said. She's an Edwards fan: "He's
fantastic. Great personality, very, very nice, down to earth." She's
met Elizabeth Edwards, but hasn't done her makeup.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>THE PRICE: Pink Sapphire caters mostly to women, offering a
"timeless bride" package for $225, a "teen years" makeup lesson for $30
and a $25 "socialite" makeup do for a night on the town. It also
specializes in makeup for media and special events. According to
Federal Election Commission reports, the Edwards campaign paid $225 for
Pink Sapphire's services, a $150 payment on March 7 and a $75 payment
on March 20.</div>

<div><span class="a10bl"><i><strong>John's $400 Trim(From the NY Post)</strong></i></span></div>
<div><span class="a10bl"><i>April 17, 2007</i> -- WASHINGTON -
Democratic White House hopeful John Edwards insists on first-class
pampering - enjoying $400 haircuts on the road and plunking down nearly
$500 for swank spa treatments, according to campaign records. </span></div>
<div><span class="a10bl"> </span></div>
<div>Edwards, who touts himself as the poor man's champion and even
launched his bid from New Orleans' hurricane-devastated Lower Ninth
Ward, tucked the vanity treatments into his 5,236-page first-quarter
Federal Election Commission filing under "consulting" expenses.
<div>Records show he doled out $400 of his contributors' money to
Beverly Hills mane maestros at Torrenueva Hair Designs in February and
another $400 to Torrenueva in early March.
<div>Joe Torrenueva is a stylist to the stars at his Wilshire
Boulevard salon, and has sculpted the scalps of actors in films such as
"Cadence," "Stand-Ins" and the Charles Bronson classic "Hard Times."
<div>
<div>Further fueling his critics who have painted him as a pretty boy
and "Breck Girl," Edwards also had his skin smoothed from stylists from
the Pink Sapphire salon in Manchester, N.H., for $225.
<div>
<div>Pink Sapphire, which is geared toward women, bills itself as a
"unique boutique for the mind, body and face," and its mission
statement is to "provide an avenue into the intriguing world of
makeup."
<div>
<div>
<div>In March, Edwards also spent $250 of his donors' money for the
talented technicians at the Designworks Salon in Dubuque, Iowa - where
a full-day spa package runs $210 - to clip his coif and slap on some
makeup in advance of a TV session.
<div>
<div>"We went to him," said a Designworks stylist who identified
herself only as Melissa, indicating beauticians and hairstylists travel
to Edwards' location to pretty him up for TV spots and campaign events.
<div>
<div>Edwards spokesman Eric Schultz did not respond to requests for
comment.
<div>Pampering fit for a president is nothing new. Former President
Bill Clinton got his locks lopped off by celebrity hairstylist
Christophe.
<div>
<div>Last summer, The Post broke the story that now-Democratic
presidential front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton ponied up nearly
$3,000 in campaign cash for her blond tresses to get some presidential
pampering from acclaimed D.C. stylist Isabelle Goetz.
<div>Goetz was also John Kerry's hairstylist of choice in the buildup
to his failed 2004 White House bid.
<div>
<div>Edwards' follicle flap is the latest uproar in his "two
Americas" - the one he talks about on the campaign trail and the one in
which he lives.
<div>Edwards is taking heat for playing to the poor while putting the
finishing touches on a $5.3 million compound tucked into 102 wooded
acres outside Chapel Hill, N.C.
