Moscow Food Co-op Gears Up to Celebrate Pedal Power

Just in
time for spring bicycling, the Moscow Food Co-op recently completed the
installation of the artful final phase of its array of new bicycle racks,
located right in front of the Co-op at 121 East Fifth in downtown
Moscow.
Moscow residents Emmett Breedlovestrout and Isaak Strout, a.k.a. The
Bicycle Brothers, designed the two sunflower racks, which are next to the
store’s 9 other custom-designed but more conventional-looking racks.
The
Co-op, which won the Mayor’s Sustainability Award in 2006 for its attention to
environmental issues during the remodel of its new home in an older building,
made providing ample bicycle parking one of its priorities for the new
store.
Funds for the racks were raised with a “Round-Up for Bikes” program at
the store’s cash registers, and the Co-op’s sustainability committee took the
lead in coordinating the rack’s design, production, and placement.
The Co-op
will celebrate bicycles, the ultimate in “green” transportation, with a Pedal
Power Party from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Co-op.
This
global cooling event includes free bike repair, a slow bike race, and prizes for
the coolest bikes. This annual celebration is sponsored by the Co-op in
partnership with Paradise Creek Bicycles and the Village Bicycle
Project.

<?/fontfamily>
