performance . . . lavish sound and pure wizardry" in the <i><span

style='font-weight:bold;font-style:italic'>eighth blackbird</span></i></b>’s
unique programming and engaging performance style has entranced Palouse
audiences on their previous two appearances on the Auditorium Series. The
ensemble of piano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and percussion will be
performing works by Joseph Schwantner, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Franco
Donatoni, Gordon Fitzell, Stephen Hartke and Derek Bermel. All of the works on
the program were composed within the past 25 years. <b><span style='font-weight:
bold'>eighth blackbird</span></b> is quite unique among chamber music ensembles
in featuring a major role for percussion instruments.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
