Lady Liberty was a symbol of reconigition to all returning Americans and immigrants. America became known as the "melting pot" of all great cultures living in harmony with each other in one country. Now a 100 plus years later we are wondering what the heck we have gotten ourselves into. There seems to be no harmony in the US. In trying to accomodate all peoples we have found ourselves lost.

I definately don't have the answer but I can see both sides of the picture. I don't think "English Only" as a rule has to be devisive. It makes common sense to have a national language and we've already developed a long history of using English as the "official" language. We don't have to make this an issue of bigotry. It doesn't mean someone is closed minded, racist, or whatever other terminology has come up on this site. It's just not possible to accomodate all spoken languages.

Get a FREE Web site, company branded e-mail and more from Microsoft Office Live!
