<DIV class=RTE>The Latah Eagle and its sister paper The Boomerang have been informed by their printer, the Lewiston Tribune/Daily News that the cost to print will increase as February 2007.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>The increase is estimated to drive our printing cost from $26,000 per year to $40,000 per year.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>As community weeklies, we operate on a shoestring budget to begin with and this increase will cause a serious setback to our operations.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>We are looking at our options, which include consolodating the two publications, which would displease subscribers in both Washington and Idaho; shutting down the Boomerang and trying to keep the Eagle solvent; printing in Spokane; and cutting staff.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>Over the years, both papers have been active in supporting our communities, we have supported various school projects including FFA, yearbooks and other clubs. In the past week, the Eagle has partnered with Moscow High School to provide mentoring to and publication opportunities for their yearbook/journalism students.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>The Eagle has strived to inform the public of the postive things happening in our communities, while providing fair and unbiased coverage of more serious events that effect our county. Our coverage of small school sports and events is second to none.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>We now ask for your help.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>The rule of thumb in the newspaper buisiness is that your subscriptions should cover your printing and mailing costs. Advertising pays salaries and the other bills.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>Our subscription rate is woefully short of being able to cover much higher costs of printing.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>We flat out need more subscriptions.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>If you are a member of or know of a group that is seeking fundraising opportunities, the Eagle pays $5 for each 12 month subscription sold.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>If you don't already subscribe to the Latah Eagle, please do so, it's YOUR community newspaper.</DIV>
