the Vandals. None of the names on the list registered as “thugs”—at
least not to my knowledge. I suspect that U of I will not experience a
coach with the loyalty of an Eddie Robinson (Grambling), a Bobby Bowden
(Florida State), a Paul “Bear” Bryant (Bama), or an Ara Parseghian
(Notre Dame)—men whose names became synonymous with the schools they
coached. Unfortunately, we just aren’t at that level of play (or in
the case of Grambling, just don’t have as strong a legacy or tradition,
as it were). But it is too bad we couldn’t keep Erickson for at
least two years (at least from an economical standpoint).<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
