Melissa -

I apologize for maligning your fine establishment. But can you explain the horrible blacked-out windows? The atrocious red & white paint on a beautiful old brick building?

Mingles is a bar in a similar type of building, and yet you can look in the windows and see people drinking, smoking, and shooting pool. Why the secrecy at the Beach?

I have no problem with drag shows or cowboy night or hip-hop night or whatever else goes on there.

However, I fail to see how Wet T-Shirt Contests and the embrace of misogynist hip-hop culture prevents it from being a "sleaze joint." It attracts people who look at women as objects, and I don't think that's a good thing for Moscow, nor does it fit our sense of community. Especially on a prominent corner in downtown.

I admit that I have never been in "The Beach,"
however, I was there when it was Xenon (you're probably too young to remember that) and it was a sleazy place then, too. I really think that having an absentee landlord of a big, beautiful building downtown is just a tragedy... that building could be so lovingly used for a better function.

I guess my biggest problem is that it's a hole in downtown... the place doesn't even open until what, 8 pm? 9 pm? So most of the day it's sitting there with its black windows staring out onto Main Street, smelling like piss with day-glo paper fliers advertising "Doggie Style" with a prominent photo of a sexy woman's g-stringed booty shoved in my face.

I just don't get it.

Penny

Melissa Hendrickson <hend5953@uidaho.edu> wrote:

As a regular performer and a former bouncer at the Beach, I can

While owner may not take
great care in the building and lives outside of the area, the managers
try to create a safe and welcoming place for all people with the
limited resources they are given.

The Beach is often put down in the public view because of some of the
events the owner brings when he is town, but if you look at the
billboard when he is not in town the events are pretty standard for a
night club, ie, benefits for the Humane Society and Palouse Pride,
Drag Shows, Comedy night, teen night and country night. people out if they are caught engaging in overly
sexual behavior in the club.

The Beach provides a SAFE atmosphere for all people, 18 and over.
Maybe you should go to the club before bagging on it in a public
forum.

Mo

----- Original Message -----
From: Pennsylvania Place <PENN_PLACE_BOISE@YAHOO.COM>
Date: Wednesday, August 30, 2006 10:30 pm
Subject: Re: [Vision2020] Getting a.....
To: vision2020@moscow.com

> As I well know?
