That's why over 20 years ago he went to a City Council meeting to voice his opinion. The decision was made to bring back one of the old sturdy benches and for years Carl sat in it enjoying Friendship Square and the activity of Main Street. It had a plaque and everyone knew it was "Carl's Bench".</STRONG></DIV>

<DIV class=RTE><STRONG>Now the old, odd-ball bench sits in Friendship Square unmarked, and it's history forgotten and a new "uncomfortable" bench bears Carl's name.</STRONG></DIV>
