<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 color=navy face=Arial><span style='font-size:
10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy'>Gee, wow a whopping 15 in the Big 12…lets
look at the Big 10, since 1950 the traditional teams of the Big 10 have <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>won 21</span></b> national titles awarded by one,
some, or all of the polling organizations. Add in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Penn</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">State</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>
and the number jumps to 24. College football reality is simple, the winner of
the Big 10 is historically the best team in the nation. The reason that there
are not more national champions out of the Big 10 is because the schedule is so
darn tough. What other conference do you play the likes of <st1:City w:st="on">Ohio
State</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State>, <st1:State w:st="on">Wisconsin</st1:State>,
<st1:City w:st="on">Penn State</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Iowa</st1:State>,
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Michigan State</st1:City>, <st1:State
w:st="on">Minnesota</st1:State></st1:place>, Purdue, etc. in stadiums that
hold between 50,000 and 106,000 folks every week. I guarantee that if the so
called great teams like <st1:State w:st="on">Texas</st1:State>, USC, (<st1:State
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Maryland</st1:place></st1:State> – give me
a break!) <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Miami</st1:place></st1:City>,
and FSU that the media go crazy over had to play the Big 10 roster every year
their winning percentages and national championships would drop off. The Big
10’s problem is that there are really only three patsy football programs
(<st1:State w:st="on">Indiana</st1:State>, Northwestern (and even they have
been winning in the last few years) and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Illinois</st1:State></st1:place>)
so even the best teams finish with 1 or 2 losses and thus are eliminated by the
stupid BSC system. Either 1A college football should adopt a playoff format or
drop the BSC system so that the rest of us can enjoy arguing over the split
polls. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

titles opposed to the Pac-10 region's 8. <br>
Rivaled only by teams from the SEC region. Of course I'm adding the
"region" phrase because of the fluctuation that has occurred in every
conference in the last 50 years. I might also add that the Pac-10 certainly
contributes 1 or 2 schools to the national picture each year with a USC or a
WSU years ago or a UW in the early 90s sometimes even a UCLA gets in there,
while the Big 12 consistently contributes several top 5, top 10, teams each
season. On another note, I might add that the last two years have seen the
number 2 seeded Pac-10 schools face a 4th or 5th seeded Big 12 school in the
Holiday Bowl. The Result - 2005 - #4 Cal gets thumped by unranked Texas Tech
and 2006 - #11 Oregon gets thumped by unranked Oklahoma.......startin' to make
sense..... <br>
