size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">The Village Bicycle Project, a Moscow-based
non-profit organization that has delivered 11,000 bicycles to
<st1:place>Africa</st1:place>, is sponsoring a benefit dance featuring African
music at <st1:City><st1:place>Moscow</st1:place></st1:City>’s American Legion
cabin beginning at <st1:time Hour="19" Minute="0">7pm</st1:time> on Saturday,
January 21.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The celebration,
labeled “Think Globally, Dance Locally,” will also include a silent auction, a
brief update on the bicycle project, and food, beverages and desserts for
sale.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>

</SPAN>There will be no charge to attend the dance, though donations will be
accepted, explained Dave Peckham, project founder and

</SPAN>The Village Bicycle Project was established in 1999 to bring bicycles to
the West African country of
<st1:country-region><st1:place>Ghana</st1:place></st1:country-region>, to
provide affordable transportation for people there.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The project has gathered 11,000 used
bicycles from Moscow/Pullman,
<st1:City><st1:place>Seattle</st1:place></st1:City>, and other American cities
and sent them to
<st1:country-region><st1:place>Ghana</st1:place></st1:country-region> in
shipping containers on ocean-going freighters.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>In
<st1:country-region><st1:place>Ghana</st1:place></st1:country-region>, the
project trains local people to maintain and repair the bikes.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>About 2,000 Africans have been trained
in bike repair through the project.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>

</SPAN>The goal of this <st1:City><st1:place>Moscow</st1:place></st1:City> dance
event is to raise $2,000 of the $25,000 needed to complete 50 bike maintenance
workshops in
<st1:country-region><st1:place>Ghana</st1:place></st1:country-region> to train
another 1,000 people during 2006, Peckham said.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>

</SPAN>The dance music will be provided by DJ’s playing the irresistible beat of
recorded African music and by UI ZimMarimba, a Moscow-based marimba band.<SPAN

Hall, located at <st1:address><st1:Street>317 South Howard Street</st1:Street>,
<st1:City>Moscow</st1:City></st1:address>.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>

bicycles, African crafts, goods and services from local merchants and
