Education. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Secretary of

for strengthening international education opportunities for our students so
they can compete in the global arena. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"'>The Secretaries also
understand the need for the government to work collaboratively with higher
education to invest in educating <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region> students who can work in
fields of international interest.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><font size=2 face="Courier New"><span

w:st="on">U.S.</st1:country-region> higher education institutions, including
the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Idaho</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>, a meaningful
international perspective is introduced into the lives of our students by
attracting foreign students and scholars to our campuses. To be more
successful, we must actively market <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region> higher education programs
abroad, reach out to underserved populations, and better understand visa and
regulatory processes. Also, more and more <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region> students spend part of their
college career studying abroad. Key investment in these programs to increase
student access to worldwide learning will strengthen the international
education for Americans. The opportunity to collaboratively develop a shared
national vision on international education with the federal government is a wonderful
goal with which to be associated.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

death of student Martina Sojkova Clark, who died Dec. 27 from injuries she
received in a vehicle accident near Harvard. A memorial service will take place
at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at the <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Seventh</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Day</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Adventist</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Church</st1:PlaceType> in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Moscow</st1:place></st1:City>. The family suggests memorials be made
to any program of choice to benefit children. Sojkova Clark was a native of the
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Czech</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Republic</st1:PlaceType>,
and a student in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType>

doctoral degree in natural resources, has been chosen to receive a prestigious
Fulbright Scholar Award. With the award, Chacko will return to his native <st1:country-region
w:st="on">India</st1:country-region> to teach a graduate-level course in
aquaculture and fish pathology at <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Sree</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Narayana</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType>,
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Kannur</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType>,
in the state of Kerala, and will lecture at universities throughout <st1:country-region
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">India</st1:place></st1:country-region>. He
founded the aquaculture program at <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Unity</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType> in Unity, <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Maine</st1:place></st1:State>, in 1985, and has taught there for 20

alumni relations and the alumni association. An alumna with a degree in
journalism, McDaniel worked in alumni relations early in her career. She
currently serves as associate director of development, and she will continue in
that capacity during the term of this new appointment. McDaniel replaces Harold
Gibson, who has resigned to take a position in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">New York</st1:place></st1:State>. The university plans a national
search in the spring for permanent leadership, and hopes to have the new
director in place by summer 2006.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
