<P>Do you know how the present council members plan to vote? Do you know if they came up with the plan, or if it's been developed by others and is now being presented to the council for approval? I'd love to know what you know, and hope you'll be passing that along.</P>

<DIV> In the last city election Moscow citizens elected a new council that most would say tilted the body in a "progressive" direction.</DIV>

<DIV> But how do we properly define "progressive?"</DIV>

<DIV> I had thought such a definition involved respect for the character and preservation of the characteristics that make Moscow unique and add to the quality of life here. However, the planned Sports Complex adjacent to the arboreteum makes me question that assumption. </DIV>

<DIV> Moscow citizens and out of town visitors alike have long regarded the UI arboreteum as a wonderful place to walk, jog, enjoy natural beauty and even a bit of solitude.</DIV>

<DIV> So the plan of the "progressive" council is what? </DIV>

<DIV> To partner with the UI to preserve this beautiful gem and ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations as the plantings mature perhaps?</DIV>

<DIV> These "progressives" are apparently planning approval of a large sports complex complete with a massive 400 car parking lot right next door to it. </DIV>

<DIV> The purpose?</DIV>

<DIV> Apparently to develop a sort of city industry of attracting out of towners to sports tournaments.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV> Now I'm a bigger sports enthusiast than most, but there's a need for common sense in locating centers for large-scale sports events. Pushing a huge sports megaplex, with the resulting noise, constant light pollution and vehicle traffic right next door to a special place set aside for quiet natural enjoyment surely doesn't display much at all. </DIV>

<DIV> This plan is wrong for the present and the future and needs to be stopped now.</DIV>
