opportunity to question Moscow City Council members, and a showcase for local
artists will highlight the second annual Moscow Civic Association Celebration in
the Park, to be held in East City Park on Wednesday, June 22, from 5:30pm until
10pm.
The theme for the celebration is “Community and
Diversity.” The celebration is free, and everyone is encouraged to bring a
picnic dinner and a blanket or lawn chair.
The event begins with
stories for children from Troy Sprenke and Priscilla Wegars. At 6pm, the
Hog Heaven Big Band will play a one-hour set, followed by keynote speaker Dean
Stewart. A panel of members of the Moscow City Council and city staff will
then answer questions from the audience.
At 8pm, the performance art
competition will begin, to be followed by music and dancing from the Hog Heaven
Big Band.
The arts competition will include two categories,
visual arts and performances, that will be judged separately. The visual arts
category includes but is not limited to: photography, drawings, paintings,
sculpture, mixed media, collage, fabric art, and cartoons. The performance
category includes but is not limited to: music (vocal and/or instrumental),
skits, dance, and poetry or prose of any style. Musical entries need not
perform original pieces. The theme, “Diverse Groups Build a Diverse
Community,” should be represented in each submission.
The Moscow Civic
Association will award cash prizes of $50, $30, and $20 for first, second, and
third place winners in both categories.
Artists and performers
who want to participate in the contest may still register at this email address:
