I am becoming increasingly concerned about the quality of news coverage at
the Daily News. Recently, you have published two business articles mentioning my
favorite new downtown Moscow hangout, One World Café.

The most recent, Timothy Hillebrand's column of April 2, was mostly just
complaints about the noise level of the shop.

Murf Raquet's column of March 19 is neutral overall but felt the need to
mention the delayed opening of the café.

Both columnists are entitled to their opinions, and it is of course their job
to publish these opinions for their readers. However, neither columnist had
actually visited the business. They both
called in to ask a couple questions and then attempted to influence public
opinion without direct knowledge of the business they were reviewing.

If Timothy Hillebrand had found the time to visit One World Café, he would
have found many people working on laptops in the warm, beautiful, calm and quiet
space at all times of day, without earplugs. He also would have seen the phone
that answered his call is located behind the espresso machine and is therefore
in the loudest location in the building.

An Argonaut student reporter toured the shop last month, interviewed the
owners and staff, and then published a detailed and informative article about it
on March 8. If the professional columnists of the Daily News business section
don't have the time or inclination to actually research their columns, maybe
it's time the Daily News hired some fresh blood.
