> Editor:
>
> Dale Courtney (Guest editorial April 11, 2005)
neglected to mention his
> most
> salient argument against
the school bond levy. Courtney is an unabashed
> opponent and
venomous critic of "government schools." (Government schools
> is a
> phrase coined by the religious right to contrast
public education with
> their
> own private, bible-centered,
educational model.)
>
> Dale wouldn't support the cost of
re-painting a public school's principal
> office. He is
disinterested in the conditions of buildings which house the
>
majority of Moscow's school age children. Unlike Logos School,
Moscow's
> public
> schools support a broad range of special
education programs, welcome all
> students regardless of ability,
teach science that extends beyond
> Creationalism,
>
offer free access to drama programs and other extracurricular
activities,
> and hires faculty members who graduate from
accredited universities, have
> state recognized education
degrees, and hold actual teaching credentials.
>
> I urge Dale, if
he is really concerned about property tax issues, to turn
> his attention
to notorious property tax dodgers in Moscow, for example, New
>
St.
> Andrews and Anselm House. Unlike his current agenda,
that campaign would
> actually provide a useful community
service.
>
> Rose Huskey
> 1738 Genesee Troy Road
>
