Tim,
>
> Thanks for your perspective.
>
> I would issue
a personal challenge though. I dare you to come to Christ
> Church
this Sunday morning. I will personally introduce you to Doug
>
Wilson
> and you can have a conversation with him. During the
service you will
> also
> get an idea of what makes him tick.
I sincerely believe you will find
> that
> there are a bunch of
regular ole good people there on Sunday, and I think
> you will find Doug
himself to be a decent guy. If you're up for the
> challenge, I will
meet you at the back of the Logos gym on A Street after
> the
service. I will be wearing a blue blazer, grey pants and a
tie.
>
> Mike
>
> p.s. - as an aside and to provide more
information, Christ Church,
> contrary
> to what some may say, is a
Reformed Evangelical church well within the
> mainstream of what that
tradition has represented for hundreds of years.
> What has evolved over
the years is the world we live in. The views of the
> Bible are not
in vogue anymore, in many parts of America at least. Hence,
> when
Pastor Wilson speaks and preaches that which has been proclaimed for
>
millennia, he is vilified by many. That's fine. Doug's a big boy and
he
> can handle it. It's quite humorous that some would degenerate
into name
> calling via terms like "cult" and the like. Yet those at
Christ Church,
> as
> well as many, many folks throughout the
Palouse not affiliated with Christ
> Church, know that such inflammatory
rhetoric is not helpful to public
> discussion of issues that are near and
dear to all of us. But that is not
> their goal I suppose. I
won't speculate on the felt needs they are
> objectifying through their
posts, but there are many in this community
> that
> see through
their façade. And whether or not there is agreement or
>
disagreement, their agenda is clear and it is not dialogue; it is not
>
community; it is not good will towards all men...and women. Well,
enough
> with the side comments. I hope you will rise to my personal
challenge. I
> remember my college days and the questions that were
burning in my heart
> at
> that time. I hope you are still
open-minded enough to consider that what
> you read on vision 2020 is not
all reality...
> For more reading on the beliefs of Christ Church,
visit
> http://www.christkirk.com and click on the
"confession" link...here's a
> sample...
>
>
> I believe
in God the Father Almighty; Maker of heaven and earth, and in
> Jesus
Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the
>
Holy
> Ghost, and born of the virgin, Mary. He suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was
> crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hades. On
the third day
> He rose again, ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right
hand of God the
> Father; from thence He will come to judge the living and
the dead. I
> believe
> in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic
Church, the communion of saints, the
> forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life
> everlasting.
>
Amen.
>
> -----Original Message-----
> From: <A

[Vision2020] Trinity
>
> According to the Dean of Students office at
UI, their mission includes the
> following statements:
>
> a)
"Our purpose is to support the academic mission of the University and
>
to
> enhance
> the personal growth and civic responsibility of
students."
>
> If this is the case then the Dean of Students needs
to object to this
> event
> because of
> the lack of support
for the academic mission of the University, and the
> idea
> that
this
> event will not support the personal growth OR civic responsibility
of
> students,
> except the students who protest I
guess.
>
> b) "We promote educational and leadership experiences
which prepare
> students
> to
> serve their communities and
respect the dignity of all persons."
>
> Again, the Dean of Students
must object because this event does not
> promote
> educational and
leadership experiences. This event definitely does not
>
prepare
> students to serve their community, and obviously does not
respect the
> dignity of all persons.
>
> "We
believe..."
> c) "Students have the right . . . to be treated with
equity, honesty, and
> respect in
> all INTERACTIONS." DOUG
WILSON DOES NOT TREAT MINORITIES, WOMEN, OR
> PEOPLE
> WHO OBJECT
TO HIM WITH RESPECT!
>
> d) "Students are valuable partners in
decision-making activities
> concerning
>
> issues that
affect the quality of campus life." OBVIOUSLY NOT SINCE THIS
> WAS
SCHEDULED
> WITHOUT THE CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE OF THE
STUDENTS!
>
> e) "It is our duty to the people of Idaho to use
resources responsibly."
> IS
> THIS
> FESTIVAL USING UI'S
RESOURCES WISELY?
>
> Just a few thoughts from a students
perspective.
>
>
