Just how scary are the extremist candidates running in Arizona? They’re
enough for respected pundit Larry Sabato to call it “ground zero for the
threat to American democracy.” The Secretary of State candidate is an Oath
Keeper who rallied with Trump on January 6. The governor candidate is an
election denier who insists that Trump won. The attorney general candidate
claims that U.S. elections have been hijacked. The Senate candidate mimics
Trump’s baseless election claims. At least two incumbents in Congress have
been flirting with treason.

Voters in Arizona’s Sixth District have noticed, and that’s why Kirsten
Engel can win in this redrawn-to-favor-a-Republican district.

A brand new poll has Kirsten up two points in a district supposed to favor
a Republican by three points. Voters – even 31 percent of *Republican*
voters in her district – are very concerned about Republicans running in
Arizona this year. They’re pro-choice, just like Kirsten and unlike her
opponent. They’re pro-climate, just like Kirsten.

This is how Democrats hold the House even after an extremist legislature
gerrymandered the new Sixth District to elect a Republican. They run on
freedom, democracy, and choice. That’s Kirsten.

Kirsten’s a climate hawk through and through. She runs the University of
Arizona’s environmental law program, and she literally wrote a Supreme
Court brief in the landmark Massachusetts vs EPA case giving the
Environmental Protection Agency authority to regulate greenhouse gas
pollution.
