The Democratic Party

The Democratic Party was started 
In January Eighteen Twenty-Eight.
Democratic-Republicans parted,
After the ‘Twenty-Four voting debate.
After he had won the popular vote,
But lost the presidential election,
Andrew Jackson left his party and wrote
With Van Buren, a new party section.
Jackson did run as the first Democrat 
And won the election of ‘Twenty-Eight. 
Small government was the preferred format.
Along with power going to the state.
The first Democrats supported states’ rights, 
And promoted conservative insights.
