BEDFORD, Mass. — One hundred cats from Kentucky are now awaiting adoption in Massachusetts.

The cats were already in Kentucky animal shelters before devastating tornadoes struck that state over the weekend, leaving those shelters overrun by newly-displaced animals.

The 100 cats landed at the Hanscom Field airport in Bedford Wednesday morning and were then transported to two facilities: the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) Cape Cod Adoption Center in the Barnstable village of Centerville, and the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem.
"What we're going to try to do is just try to help the best we can to provide any relief that can happen in Kentucky," Mike Keiley, executive director of the Northeast Animal Shelter and director of adoption centers and programs for the MSPCA-Angell Animal Medical Center, said Monday. "It's so challenging in those situations where everybody's life just gets turned upside-down, and with a storm of this magnitude and this much devastation, the need is going to get greater and greater as time goes on."

Anybody interested in adopting the cats can visit the websites for the MSPCA Cape Cod Adoption Center and the Northeast Animal Shelter.
