I remember back when I was jus’ a kid (we’re talking the early and middle years of elementary school . . . mid- to late-1950s) in Van Nuys, California  . . . when my folks (they were in their mid- to late-30s) got a new hifi and stocked up with Glenn Miller and Tex Beneke LP’s.  Whenever they got into the mood, they’d go to the living room, put an LP on the hifi, crank it up . . . and dance.  I’d sit and watch.  Those were the days.
