German volks-marches  . . . 

Those were the days, my friend.

There were/are two lengths of volks-marches . . . ten kilometer and twenty kilometer.
The twenty-kilometer volks-march always included a beer/munchie stand at the halfway point.

Ahhh, the fond memories.
