[Vision2020] So, you think the recent flood was bad, huh?

Oh, Yes! Perhaps the worst in recent memory was flooding in the early 1970s. Student housing (now gone) on the southside of the UI Information Center was completely flooded—water even in the living rooms! Boats had to be used to rescue families—a couple of families stayed with us for a few days in our then-Taylor Avenue abode.

Oh, yes! I toted a bazillion books up the stairs at Twice Sold Tales in a rescue effort. Also got heliobactor pyloria (spelling?) from the experience!! Upset stomach for weeks, and tears over the lost books for months!! But it was a bonding experience with all the readers in Moscow who showed up to human chain books upstairs... some are still close friends; it is true that disasters bring out the best in people (even nasty me!)
