 That's a cool picture, but it must have been taken before 1945 just from looking at the cars (model T's and model A's). Russell School looks very new (that version of Russell was built in 1926 with an addition in the 1930s). Given all that plus the lack of trees, I'd say it was late 1920s or early 1930s.The date on the back is likely just a stamped date of when a place (library, newspaper, etc.) received the photo. 

If only Carl W. were around to inform us of what year in his childhood this photo was from :)
