following email from change.org, but thought the account rather incredible
and if true, Kafkaesque.

*An American mother of three is currently in prison for voting.*

Crystal Mason was trying to set a good example for her three children when
she cast a ballot in the 2016 presidential election. As voting laws vary so
much from state to state, she had no idea that because of a past nonviolent
crime she had lost her right to vote

*Crystal has already been sentenced to 10 months in prison, and is facing
up to 5 years for the “crime” of voting while ineligible. Please join me in
asking Governor Abbott to pardon her immediately.*

For me, the saddest part of this story is that after losing their mother to
voting, Crystal’s children say they are too afraid to ever vote. What kind
of country scares children away from participating in the democracy to
which they contribute?

Participating in our democracy is key to rehabilitation and re-integrating
into society. Crystal thought she was doing the right thing, not just for
her children, but for her country. *Nobody should to go to jail for trying
to be a better citizen.*

*Sign to demand that Crystal Mason be pardoned and released from prison.*
