On March 20th Don Burnett presented "Impeachment: A Nonpartisan Look at a Hyper-partisan Topic" at the League of Women Voters of Moscow (LWV-Moscow) forum in the Great Room of the 1912 Center.

The U.S. Constitution provides for removal of federal civil officers -- including the president, members of the cabinet and judges -- upon impeachment by the House of Representatives and conviction by the Senate. Burnett discussed the historical background of the constitutional language, divergent viewpoints on the grounds for impeachment, and examples of how the language has been applied in select cases.

Burnett's career has encompassed service as an interim president of the University of Idaho, dean of two law schools, appellate judge, state bar president, Army Judge Advocate General's Corps officer, practicing lawyer, and law teacher. He is professor of law (emeritus) at UI.
