Ditto. I'm very sad to hear of Carl's passing. I missed a chance to meet up with him a while ago as he had sudden change of plans with eye surgery. We had a good chat by phone instead. I loved his keen sense of humor and his ability to get along with everyone. Joan, Carl, and I attended the Seattle Mariner's opener back in 2006 and his trip report posted to v2020 was humorous as usual:

"After attending yesterday's season opener at Safeco Field with Joan, I wish to report that the Seattle Mariners still suck. Bases loaded, no outs, and they can't bring in any runs. [Would have preferred] a somewhat smoother flight back to Spokane last night. I felt like William Shatner in Twilight Zone, expecting to see a little monster on the airplane win during the sleet sleet storm we were flying through. I think my hands have finally unclenched."

I'm so sad to learn this. I would see Carl sometimes at NIAC, but now I realize it's been quite a while. I didn't know he was doing poorly.
He was a kind, good person. We are poorer without him.
