This Is The Most Hippie Town In Idaho And You Need To Visit

Idaho is home to dozens of hip mountain towns where the vibe is laid-back and the living is easy. However, the ski town of Sandpoint located in northern Idaho has been making a name for itself as the most hippie town in the Gem State. Known for its small town charm and love for nature, this place might just be Idaho’s one hippie haven.

Sandpoint may have a relatively small population of 7,365 people, but the community in this town couldn't be livelier.

Sandpoint is one of those towns that feels like it has its own distinct character. People who live here are wildly proud of their home, and for good reason. It truly is unlike any other Idaho town.

So, what makes Sandpoint a hippie town?

Well, this small town thrives off of a culture dedicated to the arts and a love for nature. The town is surrounded by three different mountain ranges and sits beside the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. Living here is like being totally surrounded by the most beautiful parts of northern Idaho 24/7.

The downtown area is dominated by tiny boutiques and shops selling local goods.

One of the most eccentric highlights of the town is the Cedar Street Bridge Public Market . The public market is literally located within the bridge and is full of whimsical shops selling homemade goods. It's not just a market. It's a place for the community to come together.

You'll come across several types of unique characters in Sandpoint.

Ski bums, retirees, hippies, artists, and outdoor enthusiasts all call this place home. There's something for everyone in this laid-back town. This town truly embodies everything great about small town living in Idaho.

The town is home to a booming art community. Even simple structures in Sandpoint stand out for being beautifully decorated.

The nearby Schweitzer Mountain Resort makes Sandpoint a premiere destination for "powderhounds". A good amount of people pretty much live on the mountain during winter!

No hippie town is complete without the weird quirks you can only find there.

Perhaps the most bizarre aspect of Sandpoint is the miniature Statue of Liberty which stands amid Lake Pend Oreille. It's these little eccentricities that make Sandpoint one of the hippest places to be in Idaho.

You should definitely give Sandpoint a visit soon! The town is full of little known treasures. Did you know that Sandpoint is also considered a train enthusiast’s paradise?
