No ‘creeping socialism’ in Idaho

Mr. Hill’s (Aug. 17) letter implies that if Idaho voters approve of expanding Medicaid, we’ll be on the slippery slope to becoming like those “Left Coast” states. Don’t worry. The Idaho Legislature in their infinite wisdom will find some way to gut it. After all, they still stand on the principle of “if it’s anything to do with Obamacare, it’s socialism!” So even if Medicaid expansion somehow stands, they’ll steadfastly refuse to consider any of those other programs.

So here’s the deal. I’ve lived in Idaho for most of my life but I’m willing to spend my retirement in Washington if you’ll help me move there. In exchange, I’ll help you move to Idaho where medical care is a luxury item for poor people and teachers’ salaries are 46th in the country. We’ve been a Right to Work state for decades, so you wouldn’t have to join a union to get a job. Of course, you can also be fired for no reason at all, but that won’t happen to you. I’ll also give you a lifetime’s worth of experience in how to survive here, but if it’s peace, safety and happiness you want, you’ll be on your own.
