Wasteful spending

After many years of debate, the city of Moscow plans to spend more than a half-million of our tax dollars for a bridge at the end of East Third Street. Many of us have argued for years that a pedestrian, bike, handicapped-access bridge would provide safe connectivity for people commuting from east to west, and we were raising money to complete this.

However, the city somehow magically found more than a half-million dollars and put it in its budget for a motor bridge, which it is expediting prior to the election.

The word is that it is being done for safety. Yet, I recently inquired about the plans for safety and traffic calming since it will increase traffic near two schools, East City Park, the senior center, and high-density neighborhoods, and I was told they had no plans yet.

How is this responsible government? Where did this more than a half-million dollars come from suddenly? Are they doing it for safety or are they doing it for developers east of Mountain View?

The city election is Nov. 7 and the mayor and four council seats are up. And new candidates have filed.

Find out their views on this issue if you care about street safety and how your tax dollars are spent.

Vote.
