Letter: Vote for Brandy Sullivan

Brandy Sullivan is the sort of person you want to be around. She's kind, smart, generous and patient. She's motivated to solve problems and bring people together. It's good news for Moscow that Brandy is running for City Council.

Despite Brandy's many strengths (in contrast to tendencies among some elected officials we've suffered lately), she's not a show-boater or finger-wagger. She knows Moscow well. Brandy and her husband, Jack, a professor at the University of Idaho, have lived here since 1997. They have two children and are immersed in sports and community activities. Besides working as a speech and language pathologist at Gritman, Brandy co-owns One World Café, with one location downtown and two on campus. She knows business and entrepreneurism from the inside, out.

Brandy has served on the Moscow Urban Renewal Agency board since 2008. She works capably and amiably as a team member to facilitate mixed-use development between campus and downtown, to close out the successful Alturas Technology Park project one year early and to develop a light industrial URA district south of town. Brandy supports citizen involvement in planning and policymaking, and listens thoughtfully and respectfully to the full range of ideas.

Like other candidates, she advocates economic development, but unlike most, she understands the challenges of small businesses and opportunities in health care and biomedical firsthand. As an athlete, parent and longtime resident, Brandy appreciates the value of maintaining Moscow's reputation as a safe, walkable, bikable community. She will reinforce the solid relationship the city and university have enjoyed for many years and aspires to expand educational and employment opportunities with professional-technical training and apprenticeship programs.

Brandy is the ideal representative for Moscow as an inclusive, welcoming and desirable place to live, work and visit. Please join me in voting Brandy Sullivan, Moscow City Council.

Nancy Chaney
