LIVING VOICES ACTRESS AND DIRECTOR, RACHAEL McCLINTON TO PRESENT
“HEAR MY VOICE: HOW LONG WAS THE FIGHT FOR WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE?”
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 7PM AT UNITARIAN CHURCH, MOSCOW: FREE ADMISSION

Living Voices brings history to life with creative dynamic, interactive multi-media performances. The Living Voices technique combines archival film footage and photographs, blended with a live solo actor giving the audience a chance to experience how the world looked, sounded and felt during a significant time in history, and to consider its relevance to their own lives. This year Living Voices received the Washington State Governor’s Arts Award in Education.

"Hear My Voice: How Long Was the Fight for Women's Suffrage?" will be presented on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7pm at the Moscow Unitarian Universalist Church at 2nd St. and Van Buren with no admission charge. The program is sponsored by the Moscow League of Women, the Latah County Human Rights Task Force and the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse.

In the play, written by Rachel Atkins, Rachel McClinton will be portraying Jessie, a young woman growing up in Washington, D.C., who takes the torch for women’s suffrage from Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul. While Susan B. Anthony is familiar to most, McClinton also wants to highlight Paul's contributions to the movement. Paul was the leader of the National Woman's Party, and she pushed for the federal amendment to the Constitution that allows women to vote. The performance has a message that is still relevant today, McClinton believes. Paul and Crystal Eastman wrote the Equal Rights Amendment in 1923, and McClinton pointed out "we're still waiting" on that.

Last year McClinton was chosen to perform Hear my Voice at both Seneca Falls National Historical Park and The Susan B Anthony House, both iconic historic places in the Women’s Suffrage Movement. An audience discussion will follow the presentation.
