Snowfall data from Dec./Jan 1937/38 indicate Dec. had 14.5 inches, Jan. a
mere 4.8 inches. Total snowfall that winter through Dec. was only 15
inches. It is possible the Dec. snow had melted away when that photo was
taken, if this was a warm winter. Recall winter 2004-5, with only 10.3
total inches of snow by the end of Dec. and a mere 18.9 inches winter
total.

Warm winters with limited snowfall render it possible for a photo of the U
of I campus from Jan. to not show snow.
